O'Neil, who was in her high-school times when she took part in the auditions, volunteered for Canadian Idol's 3rd season within the early months of 2005. The judges loved her voice and she made it to the Top 100 round. O'Neil was praised highly by the judges. But she was a victim of massive losses during the top 10 week as well as the Top 9 week of the finals. Her score was in the bottom three, as well as the bottom two. After two more breathtaking performance on September 7 2005, as O'Neil and Rex Goudie made it to the final two contestants, the judge Werner said that newspapers in the early morning were going to read O'Neil beat Goudie in order to be the third Canadian Idol, the first female winner and the youngest winner of the show's time . O'Neil's Canadian Idol victory was officially announced by Prime Minister Paul Martin immediately.
